Is your wedding dress just sitting in your closet, collecting metaphorical dust? Here are some ideas as to what to do with that expensive bundle of fabric you love and cherish.
1. Another Dress
Go to your local seamstress and have your wedding dress turned into a nice summer dress or cocktail dress you can wear for years to come! There is also fabric dye you can use if you don't want to stick with the traditional white.
2. Children's Special Occasion Outfits
If you are not a skilled sewer, again, hit up your local seamstress. You can have them turn your wedding dress into cute special occasion dresses for your future/current offspring. It can be reworked into a cute baby dress/outfit, christening dress, or first communion dress/shirt.
3. Rent It Out
So many boutiques and online platforms are renting out used wedding dresses, why not yours? This way you can keep the dress you love intact and make a little money too!
4. Bedding
Depending on what kind of wedding dress you had, you could have A LOT of fabric to work with. Making it into a few pillows or a special blanket is a way to keep something so near and dear to you… well…NEAR you, each and every night.
5. Wedding Dress Tea Party
Maybe you're not sure what you want to do with your dress in the long run, but you definitely want to wear it again! Having a wedding dress tea party is the perfect excuse! Invite your married friends and throw a fun silly party where everyone wears their wedding dress! This gives all of you a reason to throw on that dress, feel like a princess, and party once more!
6. Arts and Crafts
Fabric is the perfect medium to make wonderful crafts and art with. So why not the fabric from your wedding dress? You can make Christmas ornaments, a Christmas tree skirt, napkins, table cloths, a table runner, an apron, a potholder, a wreath, and the list goes on!
7. Donate It!
If you don't really need a keepsake, but you want your dress to do some good, donate it! Give it to your local goodwill, used dress shop, or even your local theater company!
8. Halloween
Your old wedding dress would be perfect for a Halloween costume! You could be a zombie bride, a skeleton bride, or even cinderella!
9. Save it
Maybe you just can’t part with your dress, and the thought of altering it in any way makes you want to pass out. Whether it's to pass down to your daughter (no guarantees she will wear it) or just to show it to your grandchildren, it's okay to save it.
The wedding dress is something that is special to every bride. You may choose to repurpose it into something you can use more often, donate it to people who need it, or it can stay as a memory in your closet. Whatever you choose to do with your dress, it will be the right decision for you!
