Let’s face it, there are some wedding traditions that are outdated and belong in the past. But, there are others that are simply amazing and may be making a comeback into the modern era! Here are some old-school wedding traditions that definitely deserve a comeback!

Short Hemlines

Who says a beautiful wedding gown has to be..well..a gown? Short hemlines were customary for wedding gowns in the 1920s, 1950s, and the mod fashion era of the 1960s. Short wedding dresses are fun and flirty, not to mention perfect for the summer, the season that most couples choose to tie the knot!

Wedding Day Hats and Headpieces

I remember when I first saw a picture of Bianca Jagger on her wedding day, the fashion icon looked super chic in her white suit and white floppy hat. In the 1960s and 1970s, brides often adorned hats and headpieces on their special day. The look can be modernized by wearing a simple silver headpiece, a crisp white fascinator, a summary straw boater hat, or even the glamorous tiara.

Writing your Spouse a Letter the Night before the Wedding

Some couples still do this one, with the letters usually exchanged on the morning of their big day, but it is slowly fading in popularity. Traditionally the bride and groom would write each other a letter the night before their wedding, after not seeing each other all day, and have a friend or family member deliver it that night. This tradition is sweet and heartfelt, with the letters usually containing words of devotion and excitement for their upcoming celebration and the journey into life together.

Morning Weddings

This used to be commonplace, you would get ready early in the morning and have a late-morning or noon ceremony. These weddings would be followed by tea-time and lunch. Who doesn't love the crisp summer morning air that smells sweet with flowers. Not only that, but who doesn’t love brunch?? Morning weddings should definitely make a comeback! As a side note, it would also be a great way to save some money because most venues have cheaper rates for mornings and afternoons, and less expensive food and drink would be customary for the time of day.

Children as The Wedding Party

Now, this all depends on how you feel about children. If you want an 18+ wedding and don't want a bunch of unpredictable screaming kids running around, you can skip this one! But if you love children and their adorable quirks and way of saying things, this would be perfect for your big day! Having children as the wedding party (bridesmaids & groomsmen) is a practice still used by the British royal family. And it is an adorable one! Seeing all your nieces, nephews, and cousins in their little matching outfits trying their best to walk in unison down the aisle, is a precious moment you and your spouse will remember for a lifetime.

These traditions are fading, or basically nonexistent in most 2022 weddings. Because of this, incorporating them into your wedding will make it surprisingly untraditional, and unique. These customs deserve to be taken out of the attic, dusted off, and brought back anew!
