How to Find Your Wedding Style

You know you want your wedding day to feel special… but when it comes to theme, color scheme, linens, and flowers? Now you're lost! It can be hard to transform your feelings into a real-life concept and vision for your big day. Following these steps will help you see the decor and design you want (and don't want) on your wedding day!

1. Home is where the Inspiration Is

When trying to figure out how your wedding day will look and the kind of decor you would want, look around you! How you have styled your own home, says a lot about what feels good to you! What colors do you surround yourself with? Maybe your house is very boho, with macrame wall decor, and a literal jungle in your living room. If so, you will probably lean toward more sunset tones and greenery, and shy away from the modern black, white, and silver wedding. And if your home is farmhouse chic, a rustic wedding with hay-bale seats, plaid, and tasteful mason jar centerpieces, could make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

2. Fashion says it all

Now let's move from the living room to the closet! Your personal style will say a lot about what your wedding style should be. Now I'm not just talking colors here, but what you and your future partner choose to represent yourself. Are your clothes loud and eccentric, or are they simple and refined? Are you a chic black blazer wearer, or a rainbow sequined jacket wearer? If you love loud expressive clothing, your wedding should be filled with different pops of color and even fun neon-light signs. If you are modern yet understated, simple high-quality linens and perfect floral arrangements are the name of your game! Choosing wedding decor that represents your personal style as a couple, will help you feel comfortable and relaxed on the big day!

3. Venue, Venue, Venue

Now, this seems self-explanatory, but I'm just going to say it, just in case. Pick a venue that matches what you want your wedding day to be! If you're a farm girl who wants a rustic homey wedding, don't book that ornate ballroom overlooking the sea! And if you want to be a modern-day Grace Kelly, you don't belong in a Barn! So make sure when you are picking your venue, you already have somewhat of a clear vision of what you want the day to look like.

4. Pinterest, a bride’s best friend

Chances are you already have a “dream wedding” Pinterest board, and if not Start one! Search ‘wedding decor’ or ‘wedding style’ and start saving your favorite images. You will start to see there is a common theme/color palette in the images you are saving! And Pinterest will start suggesting more and more images based on what it thinks you will like! It is a great place for every bride to figure out what they want their wedding to be like! It also has great DIY decor projects for the bride-on-a-budget.

5. Steer Clear of Trends, and Focus on what you both love

It’s easy to get caught up in what's “IN” these days! But if “Vintage Garden Party” isn’t something you usually gravitate towards, don’t have it be your wedding theme! Remember what your dad would say “just because everyone else is doing it, does not make it right.” Looking at your wedding pictures years from now, you don't want to be filled with regret when you see that silly 15 ft balloon arch behind your head. Trends come and go, so stick with what makes you smile, NOT what's ‘in-style.’

At the end of the day, you and your partner are what makes the day special! So have fun with it, and it will all come together in the end!
